When it comes to permanent makeup everyone wants to know, “How long does permanent makeup last?”
As much as I’d like to answer that question, there is no definitive answer. However, there are a lot of things that you can keep in mind when you wonder “How long does permanent makeup last?”
Here are some of the many factors:
-
The pigment
Darker pigments i.e. black and very dark brown last a lot longer than lighter shades. A blonde to light brown micro-blade will usually need refreshing around 6-8 months. We normally will use a combination method for those wanting lighter colored brows.
-
The method
Micro-blade does not normally last quite as long as powderfill/machine method. Because, the pigment is implanted in thin strokes with micro-blade so they are not placed as deeply in the skin as machine cosmetic tattoo.
-
The density of pigment
The density of the pigment can be reinforced with a second touch-up appointment. Therefore, the treatment will usually be longer lasting. All of my treatments include a follow up appointment to allow for this.
-
Environmental factors such as exposure to UV light.
Tanning and not using sun protection will fade cosmetic tattoos faster. In addition, those with oilier skin will have their tattoo fade easier. Someone with a dryer skin type will have their tattoo last longer.
-
How long does permanent makeup last? Let’s talk about after care.
After your procedure you will be given a schedule of care. Follow this for best results. Keep in mind that regularly tinting over the area, using a glycolic acid based product or peel on the area will cause fading. In addition, regularly exfoliating over the brows will also cause them to fade more quickly.
-
Your health and overall individual physiology
If you wonder how long does permanent makeup last please know that some people retain pigment extremely well. Unfortunately, others do not. This is simply handled by allowing me to touch you up. Your appointment is the time when we discuss this. We will know how much darker and/or how more more pigment needs to be implanted. You can trust the process to be simple and effective.

Generally, the treatment is considered semi-permanent;
In many cases (especially eyeliner and very dark brows) you will always have some pigment remaining in the skin. For micro-blade clients with finer and more natural strokes, allow a touch-up treatment every 8-18 months. In addition, if you have power fill cosmetic tattoo/machine tattoo, allow for touch-ups every 12-24 months.
