Microblading: Is it for you?

microbladingEyebrows; we were all born with them. Some are blonde and some are dark. Some are thick and bushy and some so light they are barely visible. Over the years we are told “Thick is in!  no, now…thin is in!” Plucking, waxing and threading our brows away only to be left with enough to create a comb-over with the few brows that we have left!
There are thousands of cosmetics on the market that claim to be the solution to your eyebrow woes. You spend lots of money trying this and that. Pencils, powders, markers, serums, waxes you name it.  Now the big problem…how do you get them even? After spending hours in the mirror trying to get them just right you pray there’s got a better way!
  1. What is Microblading?

Similar to a traditional tattoo where pigment/ink is implanted in the dermal layers of the skin, Microblading implants color in the shallow depths of the skin. This method is known as more semi-permanent and fades gradually depending on many factors such as skin thickness, sun exposure, skin dryness or oiliness and age/health conditions of the client. Instead of using a machine to implant the color, a specialized tool with a cluster of very fine needles shaped in a row simulating that of a blade is used to create realistic hair strokes.

As with any type of tattooing, you must do your research and choose carefully who you want to work with. Find someone who knows how to give you the eyebrows you want.  Look at their before and after pictures and read the testimonials of previous clients.

The art of microblading and tattooing is not a regulated career. This means you must do your research and choose carefully. This is going to be on your face! How many years of experience do they have? Do they have a portfolio? Do they have insurance? Check reviews and references, go to their studio, check if the artists and their studio is registered with the health board, etc.

  2. Does microblading hurt?

In most cases Microblading does not hurt.  A topical Lidocaine is liberally applied and processed for 20 min. prior to starting. A numbing gel is often used during the procedure to make the procedure comfortable. Once the area is numb, the procedure starts. Most people find that they hear it more then feel it. And if they feel anything it is said it feels like they are getting their eyebrows plucked.

  3. How do you determine the brow shape?

During the consultation, you should communicate how you like your brows shaped as well as the color. If you have no idea then pictures of other’s brows help. This is where experience comes into play.  To determine the shape, your artist will take measurements and mark with a pencil where they intend on adding the hair-like strokes. These measurements are different for everyone. Face and eye shape can determine what will look the best on you.

The perfect result may be to remove some hair from the brow area to obtain the perfect result.  Once the brows are drawn you will have a chance to look at it and decide if that is the right shape, size and thickness for you. If it’s not then this is the time to speak up.  Do not hesitate to express your concern. This is because the artist can always go lighter. You can always add more but its not easy to take away!

  4. How long will it last?

Microblading pigments are not implanted as deep into the skin as a regular tattoo. Because of that, microblading will fade over time. Most experts agree that microblading pigment lasts from 1 to 3 years depending on your skin type. In addition, age is also a factor. I ask all my clients to come in once a year for a touch up. There’s no reason to not have your brows looking 100% at all times. The touch ups are fast, easy, and inexpensive. Call today to set up your microblading appointment.  (951) 501-9888

  5. Is everyone able to have Microblading?

The answer is no. If you have advanced health conditions like: Auto Immune disease, very thin papery skin, are in the middle of chemotherapy treatments, problems healing due to Diabetes, taking Accutane, or taking blood thinners then you are not a candidate. If you are unsure then it is best to consult your physician.
